Pi Beta Lambda
In 1968, there was one local Fraternity at what was then Missouri Southern College. That Fraternity was Mu Sigma Gamma (MSC). A group of students wanted to experience the greek system and rushed Mu Sigma Gamma. They were not impressed with the choice and felt that they could improve the experience at MSC.
They decided to form their own Fraternity that was later called Pi Beta Lamda (peace through brotherhood and learning). Not content to stay a local fraternity they decided to pursue affiliation with a national Fraternity. They contacted over 10 National Fraternities and only a few sent a representative to campus to meet with the young men.
One of those few was the Kappa Alpha Order. After meeting with Kappa Alpha’s representative Tom Tune, it was decided to request Kappa Alpha Order to accept them. This quest was completed on October 15th, 1971 making Delta Pi Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order the first National Fraternity on campus at Missouri Southern College.
Within a year the Mu Sigma Gamma’s also went national with the Sigma Nu Fraternity.
